The Community-Based Support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria (CUBS) project, funded by the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and led by Management Sciences for Health (MSH), has provided care and support to children orphaned by HIV & AIDS and vulnerable children in 11 of Nigeria’s 36 states.
Nigeria is a very resource-limited environment. One in ten households cares for an orphan or vulnerable child[PDF]. Children’s health and well-being are dependent on the strength of the systems around them. We provided care and support to the OVC by intervening at multiple levels: directly with the child, with their caregivers, with their communities, and with ministries at the state and national levels.
At the child level, we provided services to OVC to meet their needs for health, education, nutrition, shelter and care, psychosocial support, and protection.
