Menopause Care Foundation was established in the year 2000 with the aim of targeting youth, women of reproductive and menopausal ages. This project was conceived against the background of dire need for attention to the women of menopausal ages. The organization started as a philanthropic and humanitarian organization established not only to fulfill the tradition of preparing women for menopausal period but to also ensure that challenges that are associated with it are addressed. More importantly majority of the national targets have not designed any specific HIV prevention targeting these specialized group.
One of its mission statements is creation of awareness on the scourge and prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa as well as Education on its possible prevention. Its areas of focus are under the following broad headings:
Public Health Care Services for all
Welfare Services to the less privileged
Educational programme for women and young people
Psycho social Rehabilitation of the peri-menopausal and menopausal
Since its inception over the organization has been privileged to implement the outlined activities. These include education of women with their families, providing educational and counseling services. Organizing workshops aimed at drawing attention to the social mence and to embark on awareness campaigns aimed at educating the populace on dangers inherent in social or medical menace as the case may be. A good example is the awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS prevention activities in religious institutions (Churches & Mosques)
The organization has a Board of Trustees which formulates policies, determine scheme-theme objectives as the need arise, and design strategies for the achievements of the foundations set objectives.
Directly under the Board is the management made up of the project director, the Coordinator, the Special Adviser and IT officer. These officials constitute the executive committee handling and well meaning Nigerians.
