You just found out that you are expecting, congratulations. The best way to confirm a pregnancy is through a blood test as hcg (a hormone produced by the placenta) levels are easily picked up, no matter how little. Here are a few things you can do.

1. Go and see your doctor: Your doctor would determine the routine drugs you need take, especially folic acid. Register for antenatal, there isn't much to be done yet but it is not too early either.

2. Get a scan done: Early dated scans give the more accurate readings for fetal ages than other scans. The scan should be done between 6 and 8 weeks of gestation. You just might be lucky enough to see a heartbeat or two.

3. Use your routine drugs religiously: Especially folic acid as it is very essential for the growth of the baby's spine.

4. Quit or halt habits like drinking and smoking: They have very adverse effects on the growth and development of the baby.

5. Eat healthy: Try and eat balanced meals, even though it is okay to indulge in cravings once a while, always remember that moderation is key.

6. Exercise: Do moderates exercise only. Don't do more than what you are used to, avoid anything strenuous and always listen to your body, it is not the time to push past your limits.

7. Make time to rest more often: Your body needs a lot of rest in between as it is working really hard to house a new life. Make sure you rest.

8. Stay hydrated always: Even if you are peeing often, you should always drink enough water.

In conclusion, you will get a lot of your do's and do not from your antenatal classes. Be sure to always make time to attend as they are very educative.
