In the first 6 months of a baby's life, the baby should be exclusively breastfed. Depending on the birth weight, the baby should weigh about 6.5-7.5kg at 5 months. Failure of a baby to gain weight adequately could mean the baby is not adequately breastfed i.e not getting enough breast milk from both breasts or the baby is losing too much of what he/she is taking in via diarrhoea or vomiting.
