To do a pelvic floor muscle exercise, first identify the right muscles. To identify your pelvic floor muscles, stop urination in midstream. If you succeed, thats it. Now that u know ur pelvic floor muscles u can do the exercises in any position, although you might find it easiest to do them lying down at first..... Tighten ur pelvic floor muscles for 5 seconds & then relax for 5 seconds. Try it 4 or 5 times in a row. Then u can gradually increase it to 10 secs per contraction and relaxation each. Be careful not to flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Avoid holding your breath. Instead, breathe freely during the exercises. According to research, making a habit of using Kegel exercises to start & stop ur urine stream can lead to incomplete emptying of the bladder which increases the risk of a urinary tract infection. U can repeat these exercises 4-5 times daily for best results.
