It varies with individual, some people start with water breaking, some with seeing of mucus plug (I.e heavy discharge mixed with blood and appears brownish), some just contractions which are far apart at first (I.e having menstral cramps for a min or 2 that goes away for about 15-30min before feeling it again), some is bleeding etc. My first child, my water just broke suddenly prior to edd but for d 2nd, I saw blood when I went to ease myself on my edd exactly.
