Children have poorly developed organs which can be affected by 3 monthly treatment.
The Most important thing all mothers must do.
1. Prevent your babies from mosquitoes
This is the only sure way of protecting your baby.
2. And if you suspect your child has malaria , please go straight to a pediatrician.

Also note that on no account should a mother resort to self treating of her baby.
Prophylactic treatment is mainly recommended for adults who are constantly exposed to mosquito bites and in endemic areas.

No, it should not. Do not treat until the child develops symptoms of Malaria and there is laboratory confirmation of the Malaria.
